air rivet gun question
 

I see harbor freight has one for $69 that does 1/4" rivets and it's a cheap price but I can totally see something going wrong with it, but then again I won't be doing rivets all that often.

Then I see at this old man's house he has a mac one that cost $350 and it's not huge like all other rivet guns, is very small, and also does 1/4" and he's selling that for $150.

Can anyone vouch for these?

Did a teardown on a lumina (pos) and the handles are like ford pick ups with the 1/4" rivets and also the glass only gives you access with an air rivet gun. Might as well get one and save some time. :drool:

I think those are airplane rivet guns. Not sure if those would work but can't see why not. Do they work for smaller sized rivets too?

The only caution I can see with many rivet guns - make sure that it will work with steel as well as aluminum. Even my new hand rivet tool "complains" when I use 5/32" plain steel or SS .

wow. I'm confused??? Do those PUSH it out rather than pull the stem out? Not sure how that would work with normal rivets.

Yes, all the way down to 3/32"-as they are solid, they are much stronger than pop-rivets (which is why they use them on airplanes, although they do use pop-rivets in limited instances)-

We have two of those at work, and have pulled several thousand rivets with them without any issues. Of those, several hundred were SS 1/4" rivets, the rest were 1/8 or 3/16 aluminum.

We were skeptical of the HF stuff, but these seem to work.

thanks, I'll get one. The best tech in our shop has one and he also vouched for one. I imagine he thought the same thing about why spending $300 for a tool you don't use often.
