air shocks
Hey guys,
My '63 fairlane had air shocks in the rear when I bought it. The shocks are no good now(rear sags). I'm getting ready to replace them and was wondering if I should stick with air shocks and use them in front also? Are they worth the cost or could I get better regular shock. Also how long do they usually last on an everyday driven car?
Thanks for the time.

I don't believe you can get air shocks for the front. Rear air shocks properly inflated and loaded will last as long as any other regular automotive aftermkt shock.

Do not depend on air shocks to support your car....get new springs. Holding your car up with air shocks gives it a crappy ride and the handling will suffer.

That's kind of what I figured because of the way it handled before. Can you recommend a good shock? The car also handles very badly in right corners. Will new springs help that?

Yes, new springs in place of the air shocks will help tremendously. Chances are the suspension bushings are also worn out. They aren't terribly expensive, and it will make a big difference in the handling.

-EATON SPRING- will be able to supply you with new springs. Talk to their rep and he will help you choose the correct ratings for the way you want the car to sit.

As mentioned, you are most likely going to have to go through the front suspension. Polyurethane bushings and MOOG steering/suspension components will be the best choice.

As for brand name of shocks, MONROE, GABRIEL and I have had good luck with KYB's.

Just get a plan of attack and gather the parts to go about it correctly.
