Air vs. Springs
 
Hi, I?m new to this, I got a Chevy p/u -48 with a camaro-82 front and rear. Now it?s very low and sways allot, I?d like it to handle with abit more confidence, and the (lack of) hight makes it hard to ride over speed bumps and stuff.. So i want to spend some money (1-1500$) on the road holding, can you get a similar ride with a air suspension as if i bought a good regular suspension? and a want to loose the leaf springs to if possible..

I'm going to get thrown under the Bus on this one, but I'm a Coil-over guy. I know a LOT of people like Air Bags (Semi-Trucks too), but I don't want to worry about blown air lines, pump and the like. I think Air Bags have a lot to offer (adjustable ride height, load carrying capabilities, etc.), but what if you are in Bugtussle Kansas and a specially made part fails?

With coil-overs you must have well made Spring perches, but the springs aren't that difficult to change if you need different damping. My vote coil-overs-

I wont even throw you under the bus with this one. i completely agree, but my place to break down would be Pigsknuckle Arkansas. I fun lowering spring under my chevelle and they have never given me any lip. Go coil overs with a swap bar front and rear. Sam.

I vote for coil overs too, especially if you have the $$ to do it right. QA1 web site has some good info.

BTW, I have a set of monroe coil over shocks to replace the stockers to get some more load handling capability. When my Sonoma is no longer a daily driven work truck it probably will get the coil over treatment.

Well in the reality of it... if there ever were a failure ,it would be just as easy to locate an air suspension part as it woul be to locate a coil spring specifically for that front end... actually it could possibly be even easier. With the amount of truck service stations and RV centers.... finding components is not really that hard. Now in the real world... what ever you put in there will only ever be as reliable as the install. regardless if it is a static steel suspension or an air suspension.

I have got Firestone Ride rites on my truck that have been there for 10 years with no difficulty..
