I had to change the springs and now the hood won't close stright. Hits or trys to hit on one side and back is high. I think I got that fixed but the side to side agustment is dificult to obtain. when the hood is almost closed .it wants to hit on side toward the front

My understanding, and it could be wrong, is that you align the hood to the cowl. You also align the doors to the body, and then you align the fenders to the door, and the hood.

hood side to side alignment

I just read an article in our monthly GTOAA magazine on hood hinges. Worn hood hinges make hood alignment next to impossible. After reading I realized that was my problem and intend to have my hinges rebuilt. If this applies to you I can send contact info on the company that specializes in rebuilding hood hinges to factory appearance and performance.

regards

Ron

On the 68 chevelle the back of the hood meets the windsheild so that you dont worry about all you need is to aline the front edge and the sides. Some times if I 'am having issues with a hood I will remove the striker so hood wont latch then loosen the hood just enough that with a little pressure it can be moved. Now close the hood and with a paint stick or plastic tool move the hood around until your happy with the gaps. You want the sides to be even and both edges of the gap at the front to be the same. The trick is getting the hood open to tighten it back up without it moving. These cars never did have perfect gaps so all you can get is as good as possible.

You have to take the latch out first ,adjust the hood then replace the latch.right now the hood is following the latch ,so no matter how much you adjust the hood,it'll always end up in the same spot
