Alkyd vs Acrylic

We're spraying some machinery at work with alkyd. We also tried acrylic and I like spraying acrylic better. We use Xylene to reduce acrylic and alkyd paint. I was wondering if I could use acetone as a thinner?

I have never used acetone to reduce paint but enamel reducer has (acetone) Methanol and Toluene I do know that it is very hot and will damage a paint job

Acetone is really fast to make a good reducer. It also tends to carry a lot of water also which can kill your gloss.

I just don't like using toluene/xylene as it seems like paint stays blotchy/orange peely. When I spray it out it's grainy and I can't thin it out more as it just won't cover (white color we're using)
I do like how acrylic sprays though..it lays out smoother and covers a little better and has better gloss retention.
