are all early ford spindles the same?

are there any differences besides the backs on model a and later spindles? is it better to use the round back style spindle verse the square model a spindle?

The Model A and other early Ford spindles are different than the 37 to 41 and the 42 to 48 spindles. The 37/41 and the 42/48 are basically the same except for the shape of the back. The 37/41 are round and the 42/48 are square. I prefer the 42/48 myself because the require no grinding to use the much better 53 to 56 F-100 Ford backing plates. But the grinding required on the 37/41 spindles is not a major deal. The square back 53 to 56 backing plates just look better IMHO.
