allow me to introduce myself

well, i snap-crackle-and-popped my 20V turbo VW into some large stationary objects well over a year ago. Since then, well after a little recovery, i've got a decent 1964 Impala SS i've been working on. It's by no means a hot rod, i guess not even technically a muscle car, but i could always use advice and am more than happy to offer what little i've got.

Its a '64 2 door. power windows, steering, brakes, factory A/C (converted of course). Problem is it was a northern car, so i must tread lightly on the floor boards, else im in the Flintstones car. Other than rusted rockers, floor pans and trunk, the car is in nice shape. I recently painted and put on some fenderskirts to continue the flow of the car. Its black while the interior is red. I've done some modest interior work, fixed some trim and chrome and a whole lotta wiring shorts. I'll prob end up getting a new harness from Painless or an OEM one soon. (Im considering the Technostalgia Inc LED taillight conversion kit b/c hey, why not)

As for suspension/braking, same old same old: new idler arm, new bushings galor, body mount kit, brake hoses, wheel cylinders, yada yada. New springs and KYB shocks are in route. No disc conv. kit in the near future.

Ah, now on to the good part. Its got the 327 ci. with AFB 4brl carb, 2.5 inch exhaust, original double hump heads. So its a nice, relatively high reving motor with 300hp. I havent yet messed with the engine/ignition yet. Probably a carb/cam/mani/tappet set is in the near future. Im not gonna be able to smoke up the streets (well, without a damn positrac i am) but i'd like to boost my torque pretty evenly. And shame of all shames its just a lowly 2 speed PowerSlide. 4 speed would be nice, but wacha gonna do?

welcome used2befast its nice to have another impala guy around. i have a 66 hardtop w/327 and a powerglide. there are about a dozen other impala guys (and gals) on the board with just about every year from 60 to 69 represented. just to let you know you can get a lot of sheetmetal patch panels for your car good luck and i look forward to hearing from you.

thanks man. ah, its good to hang with bowties, especially those who love the deluxe luxury only an impala can afford. im already learnin quite a bit from searching. nice archive ya'll have.

64 impala ss tranny

Hey man i am a new guy to and i also have a 64 ss impala. If you get a chance to take a look at Mad Dog transmission in florida they have awesome 700r4 that will work great in your car i bought one and love it. The only thing you will need is the adapter kit sold in impala bobs or hubbards this tranny is set up for your application so they are no electrical connections.
