alternator charging problem??

ive got a charging essue on my 84 chevy scottsdale, see the owners be for me decided to take an engine out of a 90 chevy truck and convert it to carb, well they didnt get done with all the wiring so now ive got the truck and my alternator is only putting out 11 to 12 volts at idle at driving down the road the charge back wire is fine but theres also wires from the same loom just laying on the valve cover, theres another red wire same size as the charge back wire then ive got a brown, a green, and a blue wire they all run down to the starter but up top they have been cut so i have no idea where they go? ive only got one wire coming from my plug and it runs to the positive side of the battery is that the way it should be im really puzzled

The two small terminals require connections, the #1 is fed from the alternator light in the dash and the #2 sense wire is tied to a switched 12volt source as far from the battery as possible. The large stud on the back needs to be electrically directly connected to the positive battery terminal.
