Internal Alternators (Metal Fan versus Plastic Fan) ?

What is the difference between these 2 "internal" alternators?
I noticed that alt. 1 has the newer type thermal-plastic fan and the #2 has the older metal fan.
Why would they be using a metal fan on an internal alternator?

Alt. #1 (newer thermo-plastic fan)

Alt. #2 (older style metal fan)

I bought a new remy alt.. for a 1985-6 pontiac t/a with h.o. v8
iirc it's a 98 amp and wasn't much money..
iirc the pully needs to be changed to v belt. ( mines still in box in basement)

if you're gonna pull it apart to coat it, I'd get a junkyard core, and rebuild it..
there isn't much to replace and the rebuild kits are short money
