Aluminum fan shroud for my van?
 

My radiator core is 17 3/8" x 30 1/2" and I am trying to find a rad already to go for use with a 16" spal fan. I have found companies that custom build shrouds to your spec but nothing already done? Anyone have a chevy truck radiator that they were able to find a shroud for?

Why not put the stock one back on, alum or poly, they do the same thing....and you can't see it under the dog house.

My stock shroud is for use with a mechanical clutch fan.

You may have to fabricate something..aluminum flashing from the hdware store will work and is easily cut and fabricated to make a shroud..and if you do a nice job of it it will look good doing what it does...

A Shroud for a Core that size will be made for 2 fans, normally dual 10 or 12"ers.

Ok, I'm asking this because....why don't you use the mech. clutch fan?

I knew this was coming? For the amount of drag it puts on the engine and power it steals, I would rather put a electric fan on that only turns on when needed (which is normally when creeping in traffic or at a stand still). Iirc if your driving over 35mph you don't need a fan to suck power from you anyway.

I have always preferred electric fan over mechanical ones! Just a preference!

I have an 1986 Chevrolet van with a 358 engine and I mounted the electric fan in front of the radiator and it works fine.

I did have to remove one bracket that holds the center section of the plastic grille.

This fan is a single blade and not a double blade.

The 350 engine was bored with a Comp Cam and a few other trick parts including new heads and headers and an Edelbrock Carb.

The old 305 needed heads and the 350 had just come back from the machine shop after being bored and everything from the bottom to the top was new including rod, pistons, rings, bearings and heads.

It was sitting on an engine stand so I thought what hell let's use that instead just getting the heads redone for the 305

My 1986 van is my work truck and looks brand new once I painted it and changed the complete interior and got a nice set of rims from Jegs.

I prefer driving something older rather then something new.

I am just going to wait until I get the new radiator then copy the dimensions to autocad and send a print to the one company to have it made.
