Am I crazy for wanting quieter exhaust?

Well, I just got my recent engine running and am working on getting everything broken in. This is the first time I've been concerned about full exhaust and thought I'd come up with a pretty decent system. I was at one of our local tracks and heard a car I really liked, and asked the guy what he had on it for ehaust, because it was pretty quiet, for street use and such. He told me so I used that as a basis for mine. So right now, I'm running dual 2.5" pipes all the way back, off of the stock manifolds, with a crossover pipe. The mufflers I have are an eight inch Schoenfeld muffler with 3" inlet and outlet and a 3.5" chamber. Here's a picture of them #83030 The inside looks like that collector insert at the bottom of the page. They flow awesome, sound great, but are just a little loud for my taste. Without completely redoing the exhaust, is the any suggestions for quieting it down a bit with out hindering flow much?

Resonator tips on the tailpipes, they are actually a "mini muffler".

More muffler length would quiet it down some. If you could find a long 3" straight-through muffler or a couple of shorter ones, it would help.

Well, the mufflers that I have are inexpensive enough that I could have another set welded in. Do you really think that'd make a difference?

Probably not much. 8" of race muffler isn't going to quiet much of anything. I'd try a good long 2-1/2"-diameter glasspack with a non-restrictive core such as a Thrush Magnum (pn 24214 for a 24" cored unit, less that $20 at Summit). I knew a guy years ago who had a Dodge Dart with glasspacks & he always got hassled for the noise. He put on two 30" or 36" glasspacks on each side, & it cut the noise down drastically, although it still blatted some when he let off the throttle.
