amc 4 sp w/cast iron case
I have two amc 4 spds that were suppose to have come out of 390 amx;are these stout,,and how do I tell what they really are?

They ARE AMC spec T-10s. That's the only four speed AMC used until the mid 70s, when an SR4 was used behind sixes and the 304 V-8 in small cars (78-79 only). They are pretty tough trannys, should take up to 500 hp without to much trouble. The AMC trans will bolt to a Ford T-10 bell, but I'm not sure the input shaft lengths are the same. AMC used a deep bell for the V-8s, somewhere around 8.5-9" deep. Output splines are the same as any other T-10.
