AMC reformed? Or hot rod magazines sick april fools joke?

So the new hot rod says AMC is back. Along with a bunch of concept drawings and a lengthly article explaining the new reformed company how everything will be american made etc. It all sounds good to be true. Then in the back it says that its all an april fools joke. Anyone hoping maybe there is a pinch of truth in there?

If its all 100% a joke. Hotrod Magazine has some sick sick writers

re: AMC reformed? Or hot rod magazines sick april fools joke?

They certainly had me. When you get the April issue in February - the thought of an April Fools jokes doesn't even occur. I'm also not the type of reader how devours every word of text on every page, so totally missed getting let in on the joke. On top of all that, stranger things HAVE happened.

So yes, the huge media conglomerate tricked little old me with their substantial investment in multiple glossy pages taken away from real hot rods and devoted to a prank. How sad...for them.

I thought it was great! I thought anyone who enjoys cars as much as we do would have enjoyed the imagination put into the article. My other thought was that if that article was true, and the lineup was as was shown, AMC would actually sell quite a few vehicles. That Gremlin and Pacer rocked! The tuners would love spankin on the civics with either of those. Maybe they could afiliate with Dodge and put out a real HemiGremmmie!!

re: AMC reformed? Or hot rod magazines sick april fools joke?

I'd have to agree with the use of hot rod, no budget, magazine, it would grab more if it was less glossy pages.

I am offended by their joke as I own a 1980 AMC Concord DL. It looks mean but with a 4cyl/4spd, it's not. but it's fun when I get pulled over and the cop has to have me pop the hood to make sure I can't do what he suspected me of...it's all for show. AMC was a good car company, why do they have the right to make fun of them?

I thought it was entertaining. After all, a popular magazine is just as much entertainment as it is factual informationa and important stuff.

re: AMC reformed? Or hot rod magazines sick april fools joke?

I liked it. It got me until I started looking at the revival pics of the pacer and gremlin. I thought what kind of moron would want to bring those back. it'd be like bringing back the name corvair, edsel, pinto, a lot of bad press attached to those cars.

Anyway, they got me. I kept on reading to see who was underwriting an ill fated venture such as this.

The Gremlin looked cool in the drawings as wellas the Ambassador. At least they looked different from what we can really buy. When I started reading I got all excited about it ,new ideas, American made, I was ready to go buy one ....then I read the last page.

re:AMC reformed

Re formed into what? I worked as an alignment /line mechanic at an AMC dealer in the late 70's early 80's.Make it a real car? When I worked there, the wiring, running gear, etc. came from the lowest bidder!

Gremelin and Pacer would be awesome if they re made them. Both with 6.2 hemi's .

OR a cummins or duramax diesel.

Something can be butt ugly and still cool.

re: AMC reformed? Or hot rod magazines sick april fools joke?

AMC certainly pushed the boat out when it came to ugliness.
Compared to the Gremlin & Pacer, these creations sucked...

The Vixen

The Cavalier

Here's an AMC prototype that was stolen & never recovered..

And here's the new Packard...
