Anchoring Seats and Seat Belts

We have installed new seats and seat belts in our street rod by drilling holes in the floor. What do you do to secure the nuts on the underside of the floor pan, just big washers?

I have seen rectangular "anchors" in magazines but they are $12 a pair which seems excessive. I will need 6 pairs just for the front.

I just take quarter inch by two inch flat steel and cut it into pieces about 3 inches long and drill a hole in the middle. No sense buying something that you can make.

I don't want to steal this thread, but are the home made anchors ok for a wood floor as well? I was afraid I would need to bolt the seat rails and the seat belts to a cross member if I had a wood floor.

I would not feel comfortable bolting seat belts down to a wooden floor, even using the plates. IMO the seat belt anchors need to be in something a little more substantial than wood. I think I would fabricate and weld in a square tube cross member to anchor the seats and set belts to.

anchoring to wood

I agree and disagree with vince. The floor on mine is made of 1 inch by 6 inch oak frame with 3/4in plywood inserts. I would feel uncomfortable bolting to the plywood but would have no problem bolting to the oak.
