So, I've been doing this for about 46 years. My dad had a 1953 Studebaker 1/2 ton PU (R-5). One day I pulled off the exhaust pipe from the flathead 6 and fired it up. I was hooked for life. We had a junk '61 merc w/ a 390 in it so when I was 15 I pulled it out and rebuilt it. Got a torque wrench for my 16th birthday and did it right. Then we pulled out the 6 and shoehorned in the 390. Not enough power so I built my own headders and bolted on a 950 cfm Holley 3 barrel. I could burn the tires off the rim. A lot has happened since then. Falcons, Pintos, vw's and fixing anything anyone owned. Got into bikes for awhile too. I've been welding for about as long too. Certified nuclear-US Navy. Self taught machinist. Worked 7 1/2 years as a design/fabrication engineer of exhibits for a science museum (OMSI). Now that the clock is ticking down, I figure that I'd better finish up my projects before I'm too old to drive them. I still have #1 which has been sitting for 20 years and after I finish up a vw diesel pick-up and an F-250, I will concentrate on my baby. Hopefully, I will be able to use all of my years of skill and knowledge to do it right.

You aren't ancient.... you are at the core of this hobby!
Sounds like the story of many of us here! I also started about the same time, doing my first engine rebuild in '64... and painting my first car in '65. You should fit in fine. Welcome.

Welcome to HR.C . you mentioned OMSI,, That wouldn't be Oregon museum of science and industry would it? My favorite place,,
better get busy on those projects,, I know what happens when you get side tracked,,
