another 10 bolt question!

I'm putting another s10 (a '91 long bed) together and this one has a modded 2.8L (putting out about 190 hp) with a 5 speed and a 10 bolt. It is also lifted 2" and has 33" "all weather" tires.

I'm planning on swapping over to a 4.56 gear set (so I can use 5th gear again!) adn putting in a mini-spool while I have it apart since they don't make a full on racing spool for the newer 10 bolts. My question is weather or not I'll have to swap axles. I know running a sini spool on the street is not really a "smart" idea but niether is a lot of the things I do. Considering my fairly low power output and relatively tractionless tires (compared to slicks) should it hold up alright with stock axles?

You most likely have the 26 spline axles. If your spool is for 28 or 30 then you would definately need to swap axles.

I would highly recommend you get some after market axles. The power of the motor is not the issue, the spool and tire size will probably cause more grief than the engine.

Check a hot rod mag for moser. I was quoted about 230 for a set for my 92.

I guess its looking like I'll be going through the whole thing then. And the spools available are either 26-spline or 28-spline... Atleast the only ones I can find.

I got a richmond rebuild kit from jegs. It was a good price. All gaskets, bearings and lots of shims. I also got my 4.10 gears from jegs too.
