another 700r4 and 4l60e trann ?

I have a 96 gmc 4x4 i wanted to know if the tail shaft was the same on a
4l60e and a 700r4 both for 4wd trucks i know i need to get the 700r4 tv cable hooked up and i also know that the speedo probly wont work but its just a temp thing wile i wait on my 4l60e to get rebuilt

Tail shafts are not the same. The 700 has a governor drive gear while the 4L60-E does not.

as mentioned the 4x4 out put shafts are slightly different from a non-electronic 700r4 / 4L60 to a electronic 4L60E.

the 4x4 shaft with a governor gear will function in the transfer case same as the 4x4 shaft with no governor gear.

Seems like a lot of work for a temporary situation. good luck

so the splines are the same the only thing i need to worry about is that governor gear is this correct it alittle bit of work but i'm going to the lake this weekend and i need my truck to pull my boat i cant get a shop to get this trans done in time

the governor teeth will not matter in a 4L60e application... the shafts are the same length, same spline.

I use the early shaft often in the later trans.

the truck system computer will set codes with the 4L60e removed and the truck will possibly not run properly with all the codes set.

The computer talks to the 4L60e and looks for electronic feedback.

it did work but i had to make a new shift linkage and had to hook the old shift control box up to it the tv cable was the the hard part but i got it hooked up to the speedo works to but it on the transfercase and the engine seem to be running fine no check engine light on or any thing so all is good just to bad i have to take it out now and put the 4l60e back in it now
