Another Flat Black method?

I'm wanting to paint my track car FB. Easy, somewhat cheap, simple. My idea is this:

Shoot the car with a single stage black enamel. Regular high quality gloss stuff. Then, wetsand it down, and finally come back with fine scotchbrite, but skip the polishing. Do you think this will acheve the desired affect?

I suppose I could have a flattner mixed in the enamel as well. Since this is a race/track car, I don't want to spend the time or money on a BC/CC type system. But I'm concerned with the JDBB thing, as I understand it doesn't hold up at all to brakefluid, etc..

Am I wrong? Help me if you can please

So why not just start with JD Blitz Black? It's not too expensive. In Canada here, it's a little pricier. I could only get quart size cans. Four quarts cost me $70 CAD. This is a lot easier than shooting enamel and then cutting down the shine with Scothbrite. Besides the JD has a nice satin sheen.
I haven't tried dumping brake fluid on the JD. But gas doesn't affect it.

Blittz Black was originally manufactured for tractors and it still is. Tractors that see all kinds of fluids in their days.
It doesnt soak in moisture and fluids.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldnt worry about BB holding up to different fluids. Im sure it will hold up fine, 30 year old tractor looks about brand new. For as cheap as BB is you cant go wrong.

BB is a color!!! Not a paint system!!!

Don't think for a minute that your tractor came with that paint system on it.
The john Deere paint was made for people to touch up machinery in the field and all these guys want is cheap.

This stuff will not hold up to spilled lacquer thinner so how can it hold up to dot 3-4 brake fluid?

Its a bad wet dream, let me tell you!

The last I knew 15 years ago (about) JD was using S&W Polyurethane and had been for some time.

Allright, so far we told him to either got with JD BB or don't go with it, but we never answered his real question.

I wouldn't know the answer since I'm a novice but I'm sure plenty of people can help you out.

Well, I don't think it will give you the same effect as the satin look of the JD. The gloss will defintely be gone. But you'll have scratch marks like you see in brushed alum or stainless steel. To get an even look I think you'd have to keep all the scothbrite scratches going in the same direction. It may be an effective look. Give it a try. It's only paint.

Thanks for all the help fellas. I'm going to go with the black epoxt from SouthernP. Should do the trick for a track car. Easy to repair, tough, etc..

I was just scrolling down the post thinking of recommending the SPI epoxy. Send us a pic if you can. I bet it works out great! I bet this stuff holds up fairly well even in a crash, oops shouldn't have said that huh?
