Another manual disc/drum ??
I have a manual disc/drum set up on my 66 chevelle. Everything is stock gm parts.The front disc are from a early 70's monte. I am looking at 2 different master cylinders for it. Both NAPA part numbers.
TS 101578, it has a 1" bore
TS 101639, it has a .9375" bore.
Witch one do i use and why????
i have a 66 chevelle 2 door posts with all drum no power and need to know what exact parts i can buy to update to disk front all power. i have injured my rt leg (permenant) and cannot stop in time using 1 leg any info would help this is my family's comp. so i cant answer ? right away good luck woth yours ahwheelnut in texas :welcome: :)
It all depends on how you want to go about the swap.
There are a lot of companies that sell the swap for your car. I personally have never used any of them. I prefer all factory parts, or at least all that I can find. Any GM mid size car from 1969 to 1972 will work. Chevelle, Nova,(actually Nova up to 74), Monte, and it does not need to be just Chevy, Pontiac ,Buick etc also work… If you find a donor car make sure you get everything, including the combination valve, and the little brackets that hold the brake hoses, they are different from drum brakes.
The complete set-up can be tough to find but there still out there. I used to part out Chevelle’s back in the 80’s early 90’s so I always had them. I am down to my last set and I am holding onto them.L.O.L.
Somebody else will have to talk to you about the aftermarket kit, but I have herd some not so good things about them.
I am using 72 Chevelle discs/rotors/spindles/booster
67 Disc brake master cylinder
67 brake line set
All on a 66 Elky
Virtually everything is available from the auto parts stores
You will need to acquire a set of spindles for a disc brake car, along with the caliper mounts.
If creative, the spindles from drum car can be used with some grinding/cutting on the upper shield/caliper bracket mounting boss.
Your current steering knuckles can be reused.
Spindles and caliper mounts and shields are now being reproduced, but I do not know what kind of quality they are.
On my 59, I bought a kit----had trouble aligning the car when done
(2" drop spindles), and the tiny booster does not provide enough assist.
I have to use a 7" booster for valve cover and clutch master clearance
I am running manual disc on my 67 camaro, I got the setup from ssbc stainless steel brake corp. And i love them had them for like 5 yrs no problems to date. I have not had mine to a line up shop yet but it does real well . As Bryan stated pretty much everything you need is at your local parts store to do the switch just need to know what will work i tried the 2in drop spindels they wouldnt work with my front springs way to low.
