Antenna shaving

Hey all, I have a failry simple question. Im finishing up the bodywork on my 69 torino and want a cleaner look by shaving off the extrememly long and odd looking antenna. This is the easy part. The question I have is, where can I hide / relocate the antenna so I can still use the factory AM radio, or an aftermarket FM unit and pick up stations. I dont want a cheesy install anywhere. Or is there an aftermarket unit I can put behind the grill etc.. to still pick up stations??

Actually I think I just answered my own question. Google. They make hidden antennas. http://www.casmfg.com/Accessories.htm

Any other ideas greatly accepted though.

Doc here,

Get a Windshield Antenna, and install it OR for a pro job, get a Windshield for your car with the antenna in it..Depending on how many $$ you want to spend..

Stealth antennas Can be a nightmare..depending on obstructions, mounting positions (most broadcast stations are vertically polarized signal..meaning antenna must be up/down for optimum reception.) AND where AM is involved, Just about anything can be a RFI producer..like anti rattle clips, rubbing suspension and the like. Remember, AM radio is nothing more than a SPARK , traveling through the air, with Audio information imposed on it...(that's why it is noisier than FM..)

Aaah...ok. Thanks Doc. See this helps a little. I was going to just hide the hidden antenna "box" from the link above just behind the grill. I mainly want the AM there for looks and originality..just because it's kinda cool with the 1 crappy speaker and all then I was going to hide an FM/CD player somewhere for the cars system and split the antenna for both radios.

Even the website says there is nothing better than a 31" mast antenna. And they say you get best performance from the top of windshield. I guess you have to sacrifice radio range, and clarity for looks... So windows antenna.

The one I looked at was the crutchfield one. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Iu5Q76H...0&I=12044UA200 But really, who wants that in their interior up on their window?? A wire in the glass would ideal, but I dont know if I have the money for that kind of custom work. I wonder if the "box" looking hidden one would work well behind the upper part of my rear window. It is a fairly flat window.

Doc here,

That one will work....HOWEVER...

The one I was referring to, is the Kit, for the tiny black wire that installs on the glass..(like late model GM' antennas and heaters..)

There is a kit for that kind of antenna, that requires it be attached to the glass Via the adhesive they provide, Then, when Dry, you peel the sticky back off the wire ... All that remains is a tiny black wire that goes around the edges of the windshield..

At the right bottom edge, is an edge card connector, with your Coax Pigtail leading from it..

Check with a GOOD auto stereo shop, OR auto glass installer OR , local speed shop for the kit..

Your Glass MUST be spotless for it to work (stick) and The edge card MUST be epoxy attached so as it will not pull the antenna wire from it.
