anti-lock brakes

my 94 full size blazer has anti lock brakes i was having a few issues with the brakes the front was diving a bit when i used them and the pedal was getting soft.

the fluid was a little low so i filled it. i don't think it was low enough for air to get into the system the pedal feels fine now and the rear self adjusters are working because after a few quick reverse stops the truck is stopping level and straight.

so my question is this, when i tested the brakes in a parking lot although the truck would stop OK i couldn't get the anti lock to kick in i was doing about 25 to 30 mph and i hit the pedal hard. i know the anti lock has worked more than once over the time Ive owned the truck now when i hit the brakes in reverse to adjust the rears the anti lock kicked in for the front wheels.

it just seems to be a little odd so i thought i would throw it out there to get some opinions. overall i think the brakes are OK!!!!

Do you have 4 wheel anti lock or just rear wheel? If you have 4 wheel antilock do you have 4 wheel speed sensors or two in the front and one in the differential for both rear wheels? In any case the anti lock compares the speeds of the various wheels and will release the brake pressure on any wheel or both rear wheels if they or it are slowing faster than the other wheels. In the case of rear wheel only antilock the brakes will release pressure on the rear wheels if they stop turning while the speedometer reads above a given speed. I think it's usually above 5 mph. The anti lock shuts off on most systems below roughly the same 5 mph threshold. To test the antilock I make sure one wheel is in sand or on leaves or something when I nail the brake and that I'm doing at least 20 mph.

Now I'm confused, do you mean 4 lines coming out of the ABS unit with 2 going in? In any case, slam the brakes with one wheel in the sand and see if the antilock kicks in. I'm headed out for the night, good luck.
