Automatic 3 spd Chevy tranies are either turbo 350's or turbo 400's. They were used in pretty much all Chevy cars and trucks from the mid 60's to the mid 80's. You can find one in just about any wrecking yard.

I believe that the TH250 transmission is also a 3 speed automatic. Crosley, or another more experienced poster will better know more definately than I do. I can tell you though, if you look at the pan for a TH350, it looks like a square, with one corner cut off. Here's a link for you for transmission dimensions.

In a while, Chet.

But not all Turbo 350's & 400's have a Chevy bolt pattern. Many of them have the BOP (Buick-Olds-Pontiac) bolt pattern and will not work with a Chevy engine.

I will mention the t-200 series of trans... they are 3 speeds , some what weak for performance use.

T-250 is a weak version of the t-350 tranny.... look at the cooler fitting on passenger side of main case. IF there is a stud with nut protruding from the case area.

IF there is a stud there it is a t-250 tranny while it looks exactly like a t-350C with an electrical connector near the shift linkage on the driver's side of case

there were many other 3 speed auto transmission by GM other than the 200 and 250 and 350 and 400

there was the 375 ones and TH475 ones and THM180 ones and M30 ones and some others too

lots and lots

and to make it more confusing they started changing the names of the trannies in the late 80s to early 90s

such as the TH475 to the 3L80HD and the TH400 to the 3L80, and so forth

some look like the th350 in every way to an untrained eye, such as the TH250

go here and read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_transmissions
good luck
