Hey guys, I was on my way home the other night in the chevelle going about 60 or so, and all of a sudden I heard a massive exhaust leak, and my engine started missing. I pulled into a gas station and shut it down, but couldn't find anything wrong. I cranked it back up, and it was fine. I drove about 2 miles at about the same speed and it did it again......I shut it off.....sat about 2 minutes, cranked it up and it was fine. It does fine for city driving, but if i cruise at anything above 50, it keeps doing this. So far I've replaced my plugs and plug wires, but it still does it. Does anyone have any clue what it could be?
Agree with 4jaw. you need to be a little more descriptive. Engine, carb, distributor, baseline timing, total advance, etc.... Can't even try to help you if I don't know what you are working on.
Sorry, Joe
The engine is a 396, 750 Holley double pumper carb, stock distributor, i think 4 deg. base timing and 34 deg. total timing. Everything but the carb is stock on the car.
That still doesn't help us enough. What do you mean by "exhaust leak"? Do you mean it gets some sound? Try to describe it to us.
