Any info on my 350 Chevy Engine

I just picked up this Chevy 350 for my 1929 Dodge Sedan Hot rod. I am trying to find out some info on my engine. Like Possible Year, Original vehical used in, what I can do with it and if it is worth doing anything to. I took a few numbers off the block. Can anyone tell me any info on it. The casting numers are 3970010 and there are also other numbers.. 010, 02, 154. Not sure what they mean or what they can tell me. The person I purchased this engine from told me that it is pushin 450 HP. He said it is a 4 bolt Main with Titanium Bolts, Steel Crank, Ported and Polished 202-20-77 Heads angle shaved to 0.50. Silver Deep Dish Pistons, Titanium Push Rods, I-Beam Connecting Rods. Edelbrock RV Hard Cam, Edelbrock Roller Rockers, Edelbrock HP Oil Pump, Edelbrock Double Roller Timing Chain to match Cam, and a set of headman headers. Hoping I got a deal for what I paid and hoping the horsepower is what he says it is. Any input would be great.

The Titanium Push Rods & Bolts, I would dismiss as not being there.
The Block # is a good one, 010 & 020 refers to the Nickle & Tin content.
Polished 202-20-77 Heads angle shaved to 0.50. = 2.02" Intake valves, angle milled .050" The -20-77 I have no idea. I doubt a 350 with an RV Cam will make 450HP.
There may be a Suffix number stamped on the front passenger side on Block that would give more Info. Should be a casting date on the rear of Block to the right of casting number.

Thanks for the info. I will look for the other dates stamped. I am now looking over the Engine better as I pulled the valve covers and the rockers look stock and are not roller rockers. The heads are stamped 338882 E-10. Any idea if they are 202 Heads or what they may be?

The 882 heads are very restricted. Even with full porting they are lame. Lucky if it will make 300-325hp.

You get what you pay for.

You can fix that. starting by getting different heads to work with.

Good heads that actually flow are the basis of making horsepower.

Does this motor have flat top, dished or domed pistons?

The Guy told me deep dished pistons cause it has a supercharger intake as he was going to supercharge the engine. I don't think he realized that I do have a bit of a clue on an engine and its components. He also said that it has an Edelbrock RV Hard Cam in it as well as Edelbrock HP Oil Pump. Is there any determining marks on these that I can look for to make sure they are in fact what he said. I am begining to think I have a plain Jane Chevy 350 with shiny valve covers and a ****ty supercharhed intake that I have no need for.

The Oil Pump may have a Part# on it, you'd have to drop the Pan tho'.
The RV Hard Cam?? Solid Cam, no. There isn't a Solid Lifter RV Cam. So no idea on that. You could set up a Dial Indicator on a Rocker Arm & check the Lift or Install a Degree wheel on the Crank & check Lift and Duration. Cam Part# is on the rear of Cam so it would have to be removed to check that.

> I will pull the pan and start there and see what I can find. He said there were I-Beam connecting rods whcih are marine rods so they should be easily noticable. If you were to put a value on a stock chevy 350 rebuilt what would you value it at in canada. If done right.?

I dug my old Chevy Engine out from behind the garage. Wondering if it is any better than the first one I got hosed on. Casting numbers on the block are: 010
776509
G36
Stamped: 14016379 and another plate on oposite side says: H32 010

Cam is stamped: GM36 and 6930

Crank is Stamped: GM3982442

And the Heads are stamped: 462624 L69 on one and the other is H-18 or that is what they appear to say..

Any Help on these Items would be wicked.
Thanks Guys.

optional 350's

The 3970010 block is used from 68 to 79 a good block with 010. usually 4bolt mains but may be a 2 bolt. The other block # is 1978-1979 only the h32 doesn't sound right as it is a date code, the cyl heads are from oct 1st 1978,as h is for the 10th month 1 is day and 8 is 1978. Not a good head low comp larg cc (76cc) emission heads.

Looks like you got hosed, all stock parts and crap heads(one of the worst SBC head castings) to boot.
