Talking Any input on 351 Cleveland motors

Looking for some input on 351 Cleveland motors.
whats good to do and not good to do. this will be
a drag car motor. thanks

Great motors, rock solid... watch the rods over 5 grand... buy a good oil pump... theyl run forever... the stock heads arent that bad... 300 bucks of porting and ur looking at 400-425hp...

Be sure to drill and tap a pipe plug restrictor with 1/8" hole into the lifter feed gallery to keep the oil pressure going to the bottom end, this is why they had rod/bearing problems, otherwise the rods are good to 7500 rpm. Modifieds are another story, keep them under 5500 rpm. The SCJ heads actually have ports that are to big for street use so stick to CJ heads or the two barrel versions.

hey guy i have a 351c street machine i knough i will get a lot of rebutel over this but here goes if you check you will find many 351m&400m parts will work my son & i have used them on our clev. i have many of these parts for my motor good luck with youre motor & may god bless gordon

351C are good for racing but they are too hard to drive on the street in my opinion. The heads flow way to much for street use, therefor bog lowdown but pick up when the rpms get higher. The Clevelands are also harder to get parts for than the Windsors. On strict racing cars, they run great and I have even seen guys that have run Naturally aspirated 302s with over 500hp and over 6000 rpms used for road and T/A racing. If you don't have the cleveland already, find a Windsor. Parts are easier to find and the heads don't flow as much. That is a plus if you are going to drive on the street between idle and 5000 rpms. If you want all race, the Windsor is cheaper to build and repair due to the longer service time that they were used. The Canfields heads for the Windsors also flow better than the Cleveland heads. If you are going to do any street driving, go with a built up Windsor. My 'Stang has a fresh 351W with over 450hp on the motor and over 600hp with the "Bottle" and is driven on the street without any problems with lowend power, even with a Victor intake.

i have a street version 351c in my coupe. i`m running a mildly modified 1972 4v motor. it runs great but loves the gas stops! i must disagree with a the other rodder. the 351c is a good street motor even with 4 barrel heads.they were offered by the factory for the street! anyway, since you are going to race it, i would check with Nowak @ Co. Dan Nowak is a ford specialist and has a super street or race kits for the 351c. he was at 249 e emerson ave ,orange calif.
