I know, not a hot rod thread but i've noticed some boat questions lately.

I have a Suzuki DT50 on my bass boat. Lately, when I pump up the bulb to fill the carbs, gas drips from the quick disconnect. Also, last time out, (year and a half ago!LOL) it would only run at full throttle for about a minute before surging and eventually dying. Half throttle is fine. I'm thinking the disconnect is sucking air when the pump is drawing, giving me the lean out. Thinking of heading out tomorrow if I can get the gas leak fixed. Finally below 130 degrees here!

Finding parts for Suzuki outboards here in AZ is tough at best, if not impossible. I see 0-rings down inside the disconnect, one at the bottom for sure and maybe one more around the edge about half way down. Can this thing be taken apart somehow? I don't see any way to open it up.

sounds like it's sucking air. just like you figure.. the boat engines use the small diaphram fuel pumps, they don't like an air leak tho.

I know those disconnects are available off the shelf from a lot of places, like West Marine or Bass Pro Shops, which both have online stores if you don't have 1 local.

Thanks Matt. There is one place here that sells a few Suz parts. The part in the pics looks pretty straight forward, but the other end is in the power head cover and may be a factory part. I guess in a pinch, I could pull the power head cover and just run a gas line out and use a sleeve between the two.

is the other end of the quick connect threaded in?

my dad has a 5hp Honda kicker on his boat ( 23' Imperial ) and the propriatary quick connect is a trigger type mechanism that is removable and the end in the engine is threaded.. I know I have seen that suzuki type ( what you have a pic of ) at Bass pro shops with the plastic boat tanks, but I don't remember seeing the other end that it clamps onto.

I have found around here, all they have for sale, is the complete hose assembly.

The end that is in the PH looks just like an air disconnect fitting that would be in an air ratchet or impact, only bigger diameter. I guess I need to go pull the PH and remove it and go shopping. Just a pain since Cabellas is about 40 miles from here!

Take a sample.

And the guys around here, always ask for the boats VIN#, and the numbers on the outboard also. Serial #'s work best.

I always write down every sequence of numbers/letters I can find, before going about a mile. :D Sorry for the dig :thumbup:

Around here, if you just show them that sample in your hand, your told "we don't have it". Then you whip out the numbers, and it suddenly appears in their stock. :thumbup:

Guess I could try pulling out the old ones with my dental pic. If I screw it up, no big deal! LOL I'll just stay home!

Is yours a 2 stroke, or 4 stroke outboard?

If you have a NAPA store nearby, you might want to see if they have anything like it or if they can order it for you. I was surprised at the amount of marine stuff we got in when we changed to NAPA. They have quite an involved parts book for marine items.

I'm not shilling for NAPA. I'm not real thrilled about their performance (or lack of) business.

Switch it out for a universal style connector, if thats the end that goes into the tank you will have to do the tank too.

Much easier to get parts for the Merc/Yamaha/Mariner style as below.

Everybody has these style connectors, they are dirt cheap and fit nearly any tank on the market.

4jaw. That looks like the tank end of mine. I have two, 6 gallon tanks under the back deck. They work fine.

I'm going to go pull the quick disconnect and see if there is a way to either get it apart, change 0-rings, or use my air hammer and grinder to get to em!!

Well, gee, that was hard! took it off the hose, brought it in the shop, got my dental pic and pulled it right out. Appears to be metric so I called my son the Lexus tech and he's on his way over with a metric nitrile kit. Appears I'll be in this for just a little labor! Cool! Now, need one new battery and some gas and I'm ready to go.
