Any Street Rod places of interest near Tampa Florida?

I'm escaping the snow next week to the Tampa area, and would like to know if there's any good places to get street rod parts or any big speed shops within an hour or so. Thanks, Dan

Well thats about 90 miles from me but ,

There is the "old town sat night cruise" in kissimme{Orlando}

Then there is Big Daddy's Race museum in Ocala.

I don't know but I'm sure bike week is coming up in Daytona
& then right after that is Spring Brake for all those old men who like to look @ college girlie's! LOL

I've been to the Garlits museum back in 93, but I've heard that old town is pretty good. Thanks for letting me know that the cruises are on Saturdays.I'll check it out !!Do you know of any large speed shops nearby?

Well there is a NPD Ware house in Ocala.

as far as speed shops there isn't any I know of this area has a lot of home Brew's & every now & then a fly by night will come stay a while & close up.

Ocala still has a lot of economic maturity to gain last I heard Marion county was the lowest paid in the state & in the top 20 for the Nation.

While being a "ALL American City" & the 3 Largest /fastest growing county in the USA.

Alot of business & commerce moving into this area because of that reason.

While still on the subject of horse power...barely

Ocala is a major Horse country area if that peaks any one of your families interests
There are ALOT of car shows & stuff also There is a monthly show @ the Villages Every 3 Saturday @ 3 PM

http://www.thevillages.com/

& a swap meet @ Webster

http://www.floridaswapmeets.net/main.htm

There is a 50 acre junk yard called "Old Gold" in Old Town Fla.{not to be confused with the old town Saturday night cruise} There was last time I was there Easy 5,000 cars from the late 30's to the middle 80's
oldgoldcars@aol.com if you wanted to see how many & what kind of rebuild ables he's got

Thanks for those links Rob;

We're actually staying at old town for a couple of days, so I'll see if there's anything interesting at that wrecking yard. The swap meet sounds interesting too. Dan

I do now!!! I know Old Town is a tourist trap, but the kids want to check it out. I heard that there's dragsters that run on a rail that they can try. Anything will be better than the freaking snow we have up here!!

Hey Rob!! You're one hell of an artist!! :-)
Thanks so much for clarifying where these 2 places were. I think the wrecking yard will be a little far for me to go to, but I will check out "Southernperformance" that Mr. Yuck mentioned.
Unless you actually live up here in the great white north, it's hard to understand the hassle we Canadians have to go through to get parts.We don't have the luxury of large speed shops and availability of parts and materials like our neighbors to the south.The last time I went to Florida was when I was restoring my 69 Roadrunner with factory air. Air-con parts are rare up here, so I brought back almost a complete system back home on the plane in my suitcase. The Customs officer thought I was on drugs when that thing went through the X-ray machine. If I tried that today,(post 911), I'd be locked up in Cuba with the rest of those terrorists.I'm hoping to find some billet headlights and rear-view mirrors on this trip. I don't think they should set too many alarms off at the airport. Thanks for taking the time to explain the 2 different Old Towns, it is much appreciated. Dan

Hemi's right when he says you can't find parts up here. And then when you order them from down south you get hosed when they cross the border.

Well down here pretty much goes like this,,

"How fast you want to go"?..."All depends on how FAT
Your wallet is!!"

Also in this area is anyone were to have factory parts to whole cars, Wayne @ Old Gold would.

You should be able to find him in the BIG WISH book..Hemmings motor news ,he ships world wide...at least he did when I worked there.

I wish I had the money to buy him out I could REALLY turn that place into a gold mine!!

I've been wanting to get back up there but there are too many things getting in the way & I guess @ 7 MPG & a 30 year old truck ...I think I have to wait A bit, when I do I'm bringing my camera this time !

Have a good trip & be safe lots of people scamming tourists!
{typicall of Fla All the weirdo's start out or lead back to here}
