Just starting to build one.

Don't have any specific plans yet. I have to go and buy the windows and hardware first before I start deciding on door sizes and placement.

Though it will be a simple one. Nothing fancy. Just something to start with.

The trailers are not hard to build. You decide the layout, sleeping quarters, storage, kitchen, etc.
My 1947 Kit trailer has an icebox in the rear, a cabinet for foodstuffs, a counter top with 2-burner cast iron propane stove, a water tank with attached small sink above the counter top. The sleeping chamber holds a full size mattress and has a bookshelf across the forward wall with reading lamp and another shelf across the back wall of the kitchen compartment. It has one door with a fold-out window and a fold-out window on the opposite side.

Just build it in a basic configuration..once you have camped in it a few times you will have a better idea of just where and how to make any changes you may wish for..

I used the wire shelving (closet shelves from Home depot) so I can see where I put stuff..Install the cabinets in the kitchen with screws so if you decide to make a change to suit the cook you can do it readily..

Guess what I am saying is once you have the basic exterior structure done get out with it and see just how you want it and then put in any conveniences..

I was thinking of copying the design used for the Hunter Shadow. I like the way the galley door becomes an awning. I also think I want to go to 10 ft, I like plenty of foot romm when I'm sleeping.

.........Hi gary.......Have had teardrop trailers before......check out this link.........http://www.carjunky.com/Recreation_Vehicles/Great_Lakes_Teardrop_Trailer_L3433/.......there's a ton of good info out there......the origional trailers were designed to be made with 4x8 sheets of plywood, and aircraft aluminium off WW II airplanes.......good luck.......later. Find a copy of Volume 5, Issue Number 2 of Tex Smith's Hot Rod Mechanix Magazine. It has very good article by Ron Ceridono on building a teardrop trailer. There are complete dimensions and other building tips. You might find a copy on Ebay, or contact Colorado Car Books at 303-762-8595 to see if they have a copy.
