I think my favorite old magazines to get my hands on are old Popular Mechanics and Mechanix Illustrated. These were written when people actually used their brains to figure out how to make what they had work instead of buying everything at Walmart.

I recently found a 1937, a 1940, a 1941, and a 1942 copies of PM. Except for the covers, the insides where like new. No yellowing.

I could read these for hours and never get bored. All kinds of just common sense and cool projects. When men were men and could build or work on anything. Back when women were in the kitchen where they belonged. The first half of the magazine was all advertisements for vocational training. Training that is obsolete or off shored now.

I was expecially pleased to find a 1937 Harley Davidson and a 1937 Indian advertisement in one issue.

I thought it was interesting to see how the 1937 copy was talking about some new interesting technology in Japan and Germany before WW2 began.

Still a LOT to learn in these old issues.

I have a 1918 issue that was my Grandfather's. The editorial is about how the US would have to convert to the Metric system in the next 5 years if it was to survive in the world market.........

My in-laws have a camp on a lake up north that was built about 40 years ago. It's got tons of old mags of the 60's. I love reading the old PM's!

I love the old year end tech. books I recently picked up a bunch off E-bay all 30s and 40s really cool reading!

The old P.M.'s were cool, I liked the Tom Cahill and Smokey Yunick articles, read those as a kid. I've seen a few of the older ones, 30s and 40s, check out the ads in the back. Dan

I got a stack of the little 1950s, 1960s and 1970s PMs and PSs (Popular Science) from my local library about 1986 when the librarian decided to throw the musty old things out.

I've hauled the dang things from Oklahoma to Fort Dix, NJ and back again .

I love Uncle Tom's articles as well as the gadgets, new inventions and that sexy chick who always posed with the new item - what the heck is her name ?

My stack of 'em reside in a place of honor - the linen closet in my bathroom and they are oft read when I'm.......creating.

(Gun nuts like me also love the ads in the back of the 1950s ones with mint German Lugers for $19, delivered to your door !!!)

Playboy could actually be considered artful, hey look at some things michaelangelo did, they were nude too.

The popsci/mech mags were sweet, and of old hotrodding mags are best
