Anyone have a vacuum-operated wolf whistle?

If so, boy do I have a strange request for you. Can I hear it over the phone? I've heard OF them but I've never heard one in real life. I just got a hot rod project so now I finally have a car that would be appropriate for it (wouldn't sound too cool coming from a 4-door Olds).

If you can help me out, we can trade info in PM or e-mail.

Thanks, Lee

The reactions of innocent pedestrians & drivers (NOT WHILE THEY'RE MOVING!!!) to some of the stranger sounds they make looks cool from any kind of car. I had one on a '54 Chevy back around 1965-66, and it was almost too much fun. It was basically a ~1"-diameter siren (thus the too much fun part) with a tin horn to amplify the sound, and a valve that you tied a string to so you could control it from inside the car. It hooked to the intake manifold & sucked air through the siren. You vary the cadence, pitch, & duration of the squeal by manipulating the valve. You can make the old wheet-whew wolf whistle, but that gets boring pretty quick. You can also mimic a small rat-dog barking or make Curly Howard noises. I just saw some while ago at some of the Ebay stores for $40 to $50. J.C. Whitney used to have them, but they only have the electric ones now, & I suspect they might be a bit cheesy.

DO NOT MAKE SIREN NOISES OR YOU WILL GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE POLICE!!! has the sound of the electric one. Definitely cheesy.

My buddy has one on his 32' Phaeton. The car needs to be running in order for it to work since it works off of vacuum. It sounds neat with the old car theme he has going on his car. He can make it sound different depending on how he works the switch.
