anyone heard of this
i was watching a old pinks or passtime alittle while back can't remember which and saw a guy running a 391sbc.anybody used or seen this before and how is it built.cant find much on the internet about it and what i do is vague.kinda like to be different and might want to build one if the moneys there.cant afford a 396sbc thought this might be cheaper but may have to settle for a 383 since they have became so cheap. also saw a 364 kinda like to learn about them to.its all about the budget though and how good a mood the wifes in.

Back to bore/stroke; If its an oddball number you haven't heard of; its not going to be as cheap as the stuff you HAVE heard of |

You got that right LOL Its very expensive!! There were a lot of 391s in the 60s wgt to cu.in. class racing You could run faster every pass !!! Not bracket racing where you can go too fast and lose the race LOL There was no sand bagging or looking behind you in class racing wht. to cu. in.Jester When he flipped that bike it was so funny I ROTFL!! I wonder who shaves his back? |

pinks was a staged pile of unbelievable crap.I would rather watch fast and furious...
to clear up my specs posted, one was for the older style engines using a 400 block, the other is obviously an LS,though it is possible to use a 3.875 crank in some 4 inch bore 350s,usually they end up as 396/401s with a 30 or 60 over bore |

just wondering about the motor thought it might be something different to build and something that no one else at the track would have.probaly just build a 383 or go big block.if a go 383 would love to build it with 6in rods but may not have the extra money.anyone know how much less power the motor would make with just the 5.7s in it.

remember making more power also requires better more expensive parts. The most power for the least money has issues,,reliability and or drive ability.some compromises are acceptable or forced. decide what product you need"THEN" decide the route to take.
IE: a 454 makes good power reasonable price, but is tough to stuff in an old chevy2 or old vette. In a pick up a 454 is a great idea,,, an LS motor or similar newer technology is a great upgrade over the old carbed cars but cost more,,, what do you need? what is the priority? |

some people use the 400 block because the same cylinder heads can flow more air on the bigger bore.IE nascar 360s have the bigger bore and shorter stroke, more breathing/more RPM=morehorse power at a higher cost

Money is horse power If your pockets are deep and packed with money! You can build big H.P. but the longevity of the engine is limited The upkeep is time consuming and expensive!!! My drag engines are run on weekends and torn down and redone during the week and run again the next week end. You have the choice to make longevity or outlandish H.P.! Drag and street don't compute you have to build somewhere in between ! It would be ashamed to build a big stroker and have a little high revving 302 or 350 blow your doors off you can get gobs of H.P out of a 350 or gobs of torque out of a stroker ! Or even be real different and De-stroke a big block !!!
A long stroke engine piston speed up and down the cylinder is faster then a short stroke engines piston at exactly the same rpm. and a Stroked engine has more reciprocating wht. Reducing this wgt. costs money and increases H.P. Jester Last edited by painted jester; 09-29-2012 at 12:55 PM. |

I'm wanting to pick my drag car up about a minimum of 3/4 of a second up to 1 1/2 seconds and be able to run a couple of years between freshing it.running about 75 to 100 passes a year.i want to use good quality parts but build it as cheap as possible.i'm mostly running brackets so don't have to be the fastest car but want more power than my motor is making now.

how much power are you making now(how fast are you going, what MPH?) Then you can decide whats required.list of driveline pieces/gearing and weight of car is helpful. Its a lot easier to make a 14 second car go 13s than make a 12 second car go 11s
