Anyone know how many splines and diameter?

Does anyone know how many splines and the diameter of the shaft for a 79 GMC Van Steering column? I asked Deuce and he said he would check but his was in another location and I really didnt want him to go out of his way and burn fuel on my account.

I'd like to order my column adapter and I contacted the vendors and they couldnt give me a solid answer. I got it from ebay but the folks I got it from arent car people. Just an auction house reselling parts. I'd really like to get the column put in on the holiday so I need to order the u-joints soon.

Thanks,

David

I have a 79 GMC van tilt ... if I remember correctly ... But some Chevy/GMC van tilts have a different spline counts at the coupler ... I know that the thread that holds the nut that retains the steering wheel is 9/16 - 18 on some and others have a metric thread. Some have a neutral start switch mounted on the column and some do not ...

Randy,

That's what I was affraid of. Thats probably why the vendor didn't want to commit to a size. I was just hoping they were the same for certain range of years. I'll have to wait until it get here. I was just hoping to jump the gun and get the joints ordered. I may order a pair anyway....so I can get started. $30 wasted would be worth making the most of the 3 day weekend. Thanks so much for your time.

Dave
