Anyone swap muncie 4-speed for 700r4?

I am replacing the muncie 4-speed with a built 700r4 in my 68 camaro. Does anyone have any advice, tips or tricks? I have the tranny already. I want the OD so I can use a lower rearend gear. This will be a street/strip car that's why I want the automatic.
Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to Hotrodders.com Glad to have you with us.
Rich

Before you change rear gears you might want to take it for a ride as your going to have a bit more torque applied to the rear wheels with the 700.
Multiply the 2.52 muncie first gear ratio times the rear end ratio of 3.08 and you come up with a torque multiplication number of 7.76 to 1. If you are accelerating and your engine was developing 100 lbs. of torque at that moment, your rear tires have 776 lbs. of torque applied to it. (7.76 x 100 lbs = 776 lbs). With a 700R4 you multiply the 3.06 first gear ratio times the rear end ratio of 3.08 and you come up with a torque multiplication number of 9.42. If your engine were developing 100 lbs. of torque, your rear tire could have 942 lbs. of torque applied to it at that moment. (9.42 X 100 lbs = 942 lbs). 166 pounds more torque with the 700R4 transmission then the muncie.

I have a 4:10 rear end right now and was thinking of putting in a 4:56 gear. Your info will be a great help when I decide what gear to use.
Thanks

RE: Trans swap

Why not just switch over to a world class T5 or a T56 and you can still have 3 pedals?

RE: Trans swap

oldskoolcoupe I just like the automatic. I have had this camaro for 26 years and I want a street/strip car that both my wife and I can drive. I just want to put it into drive and put the pedal to the floor and go.
