Anyone use this cheap turbine HVLP gun
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone has used this gun from HVLP. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44677 I'm building a low budget rod ( see below) and don't need a perfect paint job. I was looking at a Wagoner model but it only has 2.5 amps and this one has almost 10 amps. It says it will spray heavy stains and latex. Should it be able to lay down primer and some cheap automotive paint? Thanks, Scott

It will probably blow some primer on but I wouldn'nt attempt a urethane finish with it. I would borrow or rent a compressor and gun.
Tell us about that little car, what engine, etc. It has a great look to it. |

It is a 1974 VW beetle. I am using a 1970 cadillac eldorado front end ( 500ci engine, transmission, frame, and suspension). I have chopped the top 7", widened a front hood and cowl for the rear end, lengthened the doors 6" and extended the front end about 18". Oh yeah, and it is a removeable hardtop! Here are a couple more pictures. The goal is to keep it under $1500. I have about $800 in it right now.

I've used one like that from Campbell Hauasfield when I was doing woodworking. I used it for waterbased poly only. as for on a car I would't use it at all or even try.
Sorry. David |

I'm planning on shooting an acrylic enamel. It is my understanding that enamels are different than urethanes. They advertise that it is good for enamels and laquers. Also, there is a 15 foot hose. I'm thinking the risk of igniting anything wouldnt be any greater than running an air compressor motor. Any thoughts? I'm going to get it anyway because I just bought some furniture I would like to spray and I have a coupon to pick one up for $80.
Thanks, Scott |

Like it has been said they are great for waterborne finishes so it will work great if you want to re-finish some furniture. When I was using one in my wood shop I did find that the filter clogged up pretty quick from the poly, what I did to solve the problem because of the short hose, was I found that a 3/4" garden hose would fit with the same threads so I just got a 25' NEW hose and left the turbine outside or in the next room. Worked out great after that.

Go here and pick up a cheap spray gun for your needs.. You can get the Astro brand, they are great knock off guns and I have had plenty of success using them over the years as have many people on different boards
