AOD Upgrade

I want to replace the c-4 in my Mustang with an AOD. The car is basically a driver with a few power adders (351W, a bit of a cam, headers, etc.) running about 280 hp or so. I'll never race the car, but I'll get racy on occasion, so I want the AOD to hold up. What low-buck mods can I do to your routine rebuild to increase the reliability of the AOD?

Depends which AOD you start with. Try to find one from behind an HO engine, Mustang GT or Mark 7 LSC, they have more disks. You'll need a AOD flexplate with 28 balance for the W, and the usual clutch and oil pressure upgrades. I am also thinking that you will need the starter that comes with an AOD.

A good stock one from an HO will last OK for you. Remember the GT guys souped up their engines and raced a lot until they needed an overhaul.
