I have a 1990 GT mustang with a 2 mouth old rebuilt AOD. It was working fine at frist,but now when it is cold (over night)it will go in reverse fine,but when I put it in drive it will not go in gear till I tack up the motor to 3-4000 RPM's or so then it will go in gear and work fine till it get cold again. I changed the filter and fluid and it worked for a couple of weeks and now it is doing it again. I changed the filter again but it did not help this time. Any ideal????

I have an 89 Super Coupe that does the same thing. Especially if parked on a hill facing up or down. I'm told "ain't got enough oil in it". I usually run a qt overfilled. works until it blows out the excess. couple weeks at best. Tough on the environment. By the way...revin' it up will eventually kill it so take it easy. I find if I back up easy when cold, stop and put it in drive and rev to about 1000 gently going up and down about 200 rpm for 30 sec to a min. it will go in then it stays good. a real PIA to say the least but 2400 bucks for tranny R&R is too much to mess with. There is probably a leaky valve somewhere but my brand new right from FOMOCO Super Coupe tranny did it right from the git go.
