Ardell Malowick and the 57 chevy......

This came up on my 55-57 Chevy group, about this GM designer Ardell Malowick, was not pleased with the 58 Chevy and quit GM, and started building 57s with Chrysler drivetrains..........Apparently, he built them until around 1967, and sold them as used cars.........

Centerline should have a field day with this one.............

Anyone else heard this story. I Googled it and came up with this.

HERE

That has to be false. 200,000 57 Chevys made with Chrysler drive-trains would be an event that is well known if true.

That article is pure crap. Sounds like something somebody on one too many espresso's and way to much time on their hands dreamed up.
One minute old Ardell's banging out bootleg 57's on his workbench, then when GM gets wind of it, he goes to makin' denim boots and book bags.
I've never heard of these "famous" 57's but then, I've never heard of denim boots either.

You'd think if these guys focused on counterfit Belairs, the guys doing the article would have used a Belair for the car in the pic.

I've seen a couple 57s with chrysler drive trains, but Ardell dina put them there. Who names their boy Ardell anyway. Had a girlfriend Ardell once. She hated cars. bye

I gotta talk about this somemore. I bought a exquisite 57 Belair in 66 for 300 dollars. Now was Ardell selling his repops for 300? probably why he quit. If he was pounding them ou t by hand , one guy might do two a year total build time. Now at 20,000 a year he must have had alot of employees. GM still takes people to court for reproducing parts for any thing they ever built. Surprised Ardell wasn't wearing concrete shoes for a whole car. Did he put Chevies name on them? Ohhh, that's fraud. Uncle Sam loves that kinda stuff. If not, where are all them 57 Ardells. I first heard this story in 59 or 60 only he was using Ford, Hudson , Packard or something else depending on who was telling the story. One version even had a aircooled aircraft engine that would go 180. Man ,love the automobilia stories.

I was almost believing it, until they claimed to build 200,000 cars............If they say hundreds or maybe a thousand or two, it would be more believable. Somebody went through a lot of trouble just to "Shoot the *****"

Just think... Armed with documentation like this, a guy could get an old 57 150 2dr post, cram a 318 and a Tourqeflite in it and head for Barrett-Jackson.
With a story like that it ought to fetch six figures. Maybe toss in an authentic Tiny Tim signature ukulele, just to seal the deal.
