a buddy of mine and I are arguing like crazy wether or not a cam will make his 90 mustang lx coupe AOD run faster than a gear would. please clairify this for me.

It depends on the gear, but yes, the gear change will put more Tq to the ground.

The taller gears are just going to make it accelerate harder not necessarly go faster than installing a bigger cam. All depends on your matching parts ability.

Sooner or later you simply need to shift gears to go faster period. A cam makes the engine go round and a gear makes the wheels go round both are right

With it being an automatic it would be cheaper to go with a gear swap if you were planning on a fairly larger camshaft because you would have to replace the torque converter, but all in all, if the motor is completely stock except for the camshaft you are deciding on, it would probably suit you better with the gear swap anyways.

he first had a t-5 in a 1990 gt hatch, when that trans went he got the aod lx (also a 1990)
