Art Arfons and his "Green Monster"

Hi guys. I've made a video about Art Arfons and his "Green Monster" jet car that any land speed racing fans out there might enjoy. It's a tribute to Art's ultimate coolness. It's on YouTube, here:

Very cool...Art and Walt did it on a budget....Not like today where it costs millions....

Daughter Dusty did pretty good tractor pulling too

a couple notes about art

Well done, I had a couple friends from California call and say Merry Christmas , they plan on coming up next fall for bonneville again. I remember reading that art's wife was small enough that she crawled inside the engine to polish off nicks in the turbine blades . and that an Expert looked as his car and said it was too short to be stable, Who did the calculations on the Design.?
Art said he built it so it would fit on his trailer, if it was any longer he would have had to build a new trailer and didn't have time for both a car and the trailer.

Excellent job! Those were heady times! Arfons one day Breedlove the next. Toss in a Englishman every now and then and they were very exciting times indeed!

I am not sure that Art did a whole lot of calculating..I beleive he just built what he built and tried it and then re-worked what he did until it did work..Old fashioned hot-rodding..

The picture of the guys sleeping on the station wagon reminded me of the early 80's . A friend and I made an annual trek to the salt for Speedweek. ( Another friend had a streamliner, DannyBoy) We had a Chevy wagon that we camped out of. Parked it at the end of the asphalt access road to the salt at night, sleep on the platform we had built on the roof. During the day we would park it at the 2 mile area and watch while setting in lawn chairs on the platform. The good old days :)

I love the John Lee Hooker inspired song.

Art Arfons was awesome, I wrote an article that featured him for Rod Authority a few months ago. You can check it out here
