Hey fellas, I'm pretty green to Engine Building. I have a Freshly rebuilt 383 stroker.

2 bolt main

Bored .30 over

Comp cams magnum 270h hydraulic flat tappet cam & lifter kit

Comp cams push rods

Comp cams magnum double roller timing chain

High flow oil pump

Freshly rebuilt port & polished 202 heads

Now, I am probably just going to drive my car to work daily, all highway for about 15 mins. one way. I have two Intakes , an Edel Preformer & an Edel Torker 2 & a Holley 700 DP. I know I need a bigger cam & plan on going up to a 285. What intake should I go with ?

with the current cam it wouldn't make sense to run anything that will run over 6000 RPM, maybe less. Use the performer for now. If you do upgrade the cam later consider something with higher RPM potential (although I'd still strongly recommend a dual plane).

Torker 2 is an awful intake, stick with the performer, unless you have a lot of compression and some decent gears I wouldn't change the cam either.

If you really want to make more power then get some good aftermarket heads. in most cases, ported stock heads are nearly as good.

what gears, what stall, what compression? all these things need to match along with the cam used.

a 270H is a good all around cam. With a large engine like the 388, it should run well with a wide range of parts. 3.08 to 3.55 gear, 2000 to 2400 stall, 9 to 9.5:1 cr.

I would run the performer intake over the torker. You may need to use a carb adaptor on the performer intake as most of those intakes use a spread bore pattern. How much hood clearance do you have? I would prefer the performer RPM intake with a square bore pattern for the holley.

don't expect good mpg with a 700DP. A 3310 750 vac secondary carb would be better for mpg.

with my 454 z28 i ran the same 1/4 mi. times w/ enither intake. t6hrottle response was similar. although i had the old schoole torker w/ thetwisted carb location.

I'd run the torker intake with a 1" open carb spacer.

If you have to use either/or, I'd stick w/the Performer- knowing that it'll cost some top end (maybe) compared to the Torquer II.

What you should consider is an RPM or knock-off. Air Gap if you must, but I like just the RPM- although this is solely based on here-say.

You can fart around w/spacers on either one and gain (or lose) power. I'd suggest making your own, buy them at a swap meet or be prepared to shell out some coin. Open spacers can be found cheap, but the double throw-down swirly-twirly ones are $$$.

it is on a bbc. the performer and torker make the same peak hp and torque. But the performer made max torque 600 rpms sooner. That is what I felt in my sbc power z car when I tried the torker.
