Astro 700r4 any good for my 350??

I'm searching around for a 700R4 to put behind my stock 350 sbs and have found a 86 or 87 Chevy Astro (4.3) with a good 700r4. Is this a good donor tranny for my 350??

An early 700 like that should be torn down, and have the updates done. Then, it should be fine.

There's a whole list of stuff that was changed/updated, on the 700, almost up to the advent of the 700E.

I'm not confident enough about 700 guts to try and list them, here.

A good tranny shop should be able to do it all, into a rebuild.

Do you know what the last year was that the 700R4 had a gear speedo, not electronic? Or is the electronic one convertable to gear speedo somehow?

Cool

murrsue,

the tranny you mention will be fine for a stock 350 chevy motor.

the 4.3 trany will need larger boost valves, servo besides the usual parts for a quality rebuid.

I would recomend a TransGo shift kit for it also.

If you are going to hotrod this tranny then some changes / upgrades would be prudent.

visit my pages for speedo conversion inforamtion

Crosley, I'm very interested in your speedo conversion but that link won't work. Please check that it's correct. Murray
