ATF vs Power Steering Fluid?

I bought a bottle of ATF the other night and it says it can be used in the power steering pump. Is that true? Can I use it in my GM pump? What about mixing with whats left in the system?

Regards
Mark

Hi Mark, Mark here.
I've used Dexron tranny fluid in all my GM cars for over 25 years and never had a problem.

Having said that, the imports are different. I believe that the Hondas require their own PS fluid. If you use ATF in them, the rack, hoses and pump take a huge dump.
