attach alum door panels and headliner
What is the best clip to attach aluminum door panels and headliner? I have a 26 Studebaker tudor sedan. My plan is to use .040 aluminum sheets for the door panels wrap them with foam and cloth and use some type of clip to push the panel in place. The same with the roof panel which is a 1 piece alum sheet, I lifted the windshield, curl the panel some what and slide into place. I was going to fiberglass the clips in place on the alum and push the panels on, not that easy. The wire clips I purchased do not have enough strength to hold the roof panel up which weighs about 17 lbs without the foam and fabric. I saw an interior going in this way, well at least the door panels were being done this way, I thought it was a pretty good idea, being the alum was free. Do the plastic Christmas tree clips have more holding power than the wire clips. I like the idea of the alum, then there will not be any roof bows or seams showing. Anyone one else use alum for the panels or should I start over with some thing else?

The plastic clips do not have more holding power, especially over time. They get brittle when they get older. I use the Au-Ve-Co 12134 clip for door panels, but you're going to have to use something a lot stronger to hold the headliner in with that much weight. This is an offset clip, so the holes in the panels have to be offset 5/8" from the holes in the door. FWIW, the aluminum may have been free, but it's going to rattle, especially the headliner. You may want to re-think this project.
