Thanks Poncho. Nobody needs that attitude.

Thanks for taking out all the offensive comments so I didn't have toe read them! I maight add though, that responding to idiotic comments only increases the amount of OT traffic in a thread. Let the forum mods do their job and ignore the idiots -- they'll go away one way or another.
Now for ON TOPIC -- front wheel drive suspensions in general don't lend themselves to rear drive conversions. Some front drive spindles/knuckles can be used with the stub axles in place, some can't. I've seen one or two with the outer CV joints removed and the stub shafts left in, can't recall what models though. They are usually strut type suspensions and not very useable on open fender cars. If you have a place to mount the strut under the hood (or maybe real close to it -- sort of like an oversize coil over?) it would look better than a Mustang II setup, I think. Would depend on what the lower arm looks like. Now I'm not condoning or suggesting this, just "brain-storming" as to the possibilities. I'm sure HeavyChevy73 meant 70s Mustang clip. 79+ Fox bodies use a strut with a spring between the front rail and lower control arm. That might be useable, and considering what I said above might even look better than a Mustang II type upper/lower control arm setup. The "hat" for the spring and upper control arm is the main bulky, offensive part in the MII setup IMHO. The frame rail would have to be very high to mount a Fox type strut/spring under it, so even if you could live with the strut it would be difficult to work around an open wheel rod. the frame rail would be about traditional headlight level. Hmmm... maybe mont the headlights directly to the rail and have a dropped rad support, with the rad between the rails? Nah... would look to weird... but then some people like weird.... Camaros use a similar setup. The advantage to the spring in that location is the upper fender sheetmetal doesn't have to support the weight of the car, just locate the top of the strut. Makes for a slightly lower hood and trimmer upper fenders since no spring has to be underneath. |

Our Mods are doing a outstanding job taking care of things like this and I certainly do not see any use for a Backroom....If you are here to learn and share fine....If you want backroom stuff, then you need to look for another site. Thats my 2 cents worth.

I just thought it would help people like you and me from having to read all the "drama" if it was kept to one "room" we never had to visit.
Just thought it would help the GOOD postings flow better without being drug off topic continually. |

Also, I don't think OT matters such as this are always a bad thing. I can think of at least two positive aspects. While you are correct that it is the Mod's job to handle this, I think it is also important that the general membership show its support for what the site stands for and what the Mods do. In this case Poncho attempted early on to tone things down but the poster just sort of threw that back in his face. I know my comments were primarily to let the poster know that the Mods don't stand alone on these matters...the vast majority of the membership stands right along side them. Second, I think the OT portions of threads like this can help newcomers and lurkers understand what type of site this is and what type of behavior is expected. It also helps define what will and will not be tolerated. That's not to say we should be plastering this stuff into every thread or trying to instigate fights just so we can "make an example". But threads like this are not a total waste in terms of helping folks understand what we are all about.
