Auburn gear question

I just bought an Auburb Gear posi unit on Ebay for $280. It looks brand new but I think I got screwed. It is an 8.5", 10 bolt, 28 spline unit. The person I bought it from said it came out of an 87 Suburban. Here's the problem. On each end of this unit, bearings supposed to be press fitted. I have old bearings from another posi unit (same size, I wasn't gonna use them for this unit, I was gonna buy new) that I tried to fit by hand over the journals from this Auburn Gear, on the narrow side of the cone the old bearing would not fit over the journal, which is correct, they have to be press fitted. On the other end (wide end) the bearing slipped right over that journal and was even free wheeling (loose). My question is, does that mean this unit is junk, or is the wide end of the unit a fraction smaller than the other end? By the way, that's an actual picture of this unit! Jamie

I can’t answer your question but I can lead you to some experts that will. I purchase all my rear axles parts from this place. Contact them and ask for Craig or lorry. They are both great guys and will for sure be able to answer your question.

For the money, I'd go buy a set of new side bearings and try them. the old ones may be stretched.

Auburn Gear problem

That can't be it because I tested both bearings. Both are loose on wide end and both are tight on narrow end. Thanks anyway
