Auburn (Linited Slip) Instaltion

Well, I got the new Auburn unit installed in my 85 Chevy (2-wheel drive) truck yesterday. All went well excipt getting the chims in. Tough to do when you're by yourself. Took it for a little drive last night and it feels and sounds good. Was going to take it out for a 10 or 20 mile run today but, it started to rain last night and now we have nothing but "black ice" eveywhere. So decided to to waite for better weather. But, I have one question, in the instructions that came with it they said after you get the mesh set right, add another .008, to the shims, .004 to each side, to "preload" the carrier barings. Anyone know what's up with that? I don't think I have room for another .008 in shims.

You just need to get the shims as tight as you can without damaging the shims or the housing. If you can tap the shims in without bending them or shaving metal off of the housing, and you can't pull the differential out by hand then it's tight enough.
