Ok, I need to do some minor body work on a truck im gonning to paint. This is my first time around and I need help buying tools. Im on a budget so I dont want to go fancy.

Here is my selection can someone give me some insite?

http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=505&itemType=CATEGORY

Besides one of these kits i was going to purchase a DA sander. Specific brand thats good for the money?

the extent work will be sanding, leveling the panels with one nice big ding on the top of the bed right under the cab rear window. spraying and wet sanding.

right now im mostly interested in tools for the prep, I will research my spray gun seperately seeing as that subject has been covered in some length.

Thanks Guys

Read this write up Brian put on the forum a little while back... As for the DA I dont really know of any cheap one that is better than another... I do know that Hutchins makes a great finish sander like for sanding clear etc, and Dynabrade makes a great true DA,.,,,, but you are looking at $180 for the hutch and 3-400 for the dnya....

I am bumping this thread so maybe someone else can chime in for ya bro

Great tool review

Here I am Bro!!! :welcome:

I just purchased a Porter-Cable palm air sander.
It's for Christmas from my wife so I probably won't be able to
try it out till then.
It's a new air sander that PC is trying to compete with Dynabrade
And Hutchins, those two are the best of the best.
PC has a 5" and 6" model that comes with or without vacuum hook-up.
They retail for around $180.00 but if you look on the net they can be
had for around $110.00. I found one for $100.00 with shipping.
For that price I decided to get one.
I am going to use it for my woodworking too, but I won't be able
to report on it untill after Christmas
They use 15 cfm at 90psi just like the big boys do
so you better have a compressor that's big enough.

DA sanders

The true DA can either be rotary or random orbit just by flicking the adjustment..Body shop guys like these because one tool does most of the work..use the rotary motion for fast removal and the random action for finer work..like having 2 tools in one..once you have used a good one you will never wish to go back to any other sander..

Yes I have and I really like it. It's much more comfortable than the
DA and stays flatter with only one hand. It does hog the air, but about
the same as my DA. I did some sanding on a hood's clearcoat and it
really seemed to get it dead flat. I also tried it on some wood in my shop
and it seemed to not work as well there. It wanted to hop a little.
Maybe if I get one of those cushion pads for it, it will do better.
For my woodwork I think I'll stay with my electric random orbital sanders.
But for the car wet sanding this thing is great.
It seems to be pretty well built so I hope it lives up to the Porter Cable
reputation. I'd recommend this tool for those that have enough air to
power it. I think it's about 15cfm at 90 psi.
