I bought a cheap auto helmet from msc ~9 years ago and it works well for me. One thing for the people who complain that the cheap ones are too dark. About 2 years ago I am having dinner with SWMBO, and railing about how dark it was, and why do they make the writing on the menu so small.....well, she replied by getting me an eye exam. Well, I'll tell you, BIG difference in my welding. Just reading glasses, but my vision is greatly affected by the light, and while I can read pretty well in bright light, just a slight dimming and it is impossible. It is much easier to see through the dark starting lense and while welding through the darkened lense. The narrow focus distance is a problem with reading glasses, but I may look into different focal length glasses.
