I said that in my first post... dvd's are fine, but machine time is what you need. Video's can be a great reference, but asking your monitor/t.v. a question rarely gets answered

Covering the basics is easy... but most projects seem to stray from the basics in the unique very quickly. I have yet to find anything about making a canvas cargo cover for my 1943 Chevvy truck.

The key is to get as much information as you can (books, video, chats) and be able to piece those bits together to solve your new problem. And most of that is, as we all know, called experience.

What kind of canvas cover are you trying to make, like a tonneau cover? You are right about machine time, but mindlessly sewing without knowing if you're doing it right can be counter-productive.

No one lives forever, the trick is creating something that will.

Not a pickup, a 1 1/2 ton cargo truck with a stake body.

I won't even attempt to sew something that expensive (well, I could buy one for about $600) till I get a lot more experience. Right now it's simple seat cushions, webbing, side curtains (aka doors).

'Mindless sewing' not the word for it. I don't pay for things I could do, or learn to do on my own. Every stitch into the canvas makes me a little smarter. Most people don't need to know every trick in the book.... just enough to get the thing they are working on done. I couldn't care less about french seams.. I'll never need to do one. Ditto for zippers. Not one seat on my truck uses a zipper.

Of course sewing is not my day job.
