I was thinking about buying a C3 corvette and working on it or finding a chevy body, maybe a pontiac body, and dropping in a crate engine. For ethier scenario, I need a heavy duty tranny that offers driveability and performance for an engine I suspect will be anywhere as high as 475 horsepower when i'm done. At first I thought maybe a Turbo 400, but i also heard about a 700r4? It also has to be automatic. If you could give me some suggestions that would be great. Thanks a million.

If possible, could you give me any info on a good tranny + rear end combo so I can run good 0-60 times as well as 1/4 mile times. Thanks.

the tranny you want is the 350 turbo c/w shift kit and maybe a 3000 stall convertor.
i built a 2 speed glide c/w shift kit and 3000 stall convertor, its still in my garage, i put in the 350.the glide is the best tranny if your over 600 h.p. and under 3000 lbs ground weight. other than this the 350 turbo is the best .400 turbos have their place too. the one from the vette has a place, behind the barn till spring clean up. lol.or in a milk truck.they are almost bullet proof,but rob power.mike
